Despite not even remotely being unpacked from the move I’ll be at the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo this weekend!
Catch me at table B14 in the Artist Alley all weekend, or in my panel “How to Identify Bootlegs” Saturday at 5pm in room 101.
Animethon 22 was a huuuge success! This year I volunteered in a staff position, shared an Artist Alley table with Semajz, and ran 3 panels! It was honestly a little over whelming, but I made it through lol.
Check out the bottom of the post for pictures from the event!
…was the test run for the weekend lol. James and I set up our table, I grabbed my passes, ran down to the vendors, kept my table going, and ran my How to Spot Bootlegs panel! The panel was a huge success and I might be running it elsewhere because of that. Everyone seemed to love the info that I had to share with them, and I even seen some surprised faces in the crowd when I provided some facts.
Managed to make it through Friday without spending money!! …and then parking cost me $28. Who thought that was reasonable?!
…was the day I feared. Along with my staff position I had my table, and TWO panels!
My morning was BUSY. We re-positioned our art on our display to better display some new pieces, I raided the vendors, and sold some art!
My first panel of the day was at 3:30pm in building 9. My Sailor Moon Panel! The room was nearly full, so I’d hazard a guess of about 70 people showed up. We laughed, we cried (over pretty things), and had a good laugh. The panel was wonderful and I can’t wait for it every year.
Panel 2 was a Sailor Moon Trivia panel I ended up taking over for my friend Beth, with my friend Alison. Beth couldn’t make it, and Alison and I had never run a trivia panel before… soooo this one was interesting. It was mostly crazy chaos lmao, but we got a winner who kicked everyone’s butts, and was even dressed as her prize (a Girls Memories chibi Saturn).
It’s always sad when you reach convention wind down day. Everyone is out shopping for good deals, going to panels they decided on last minute, and saying goodbye to friends as we pack up and leave for the weekend.
Thankfully Sunday was fairly easy going for me. I just sat, sold art, and checked out vendors one last time.
Animethon is the convention that doesn’t seem to end for me. When I go back it feels like we never left the previous year. It’s great! the community is welcoming, everyone has fun, it has dramas, but never anything too horrible. Here’s hoping I can go back next year!
Tomorrow, August 15th, is International Sailor Moon Day! I’ll be hosting my own event in Edmonton, Alberta at Happy Harbor Comics.
September 25-27 is also the Edmonton Expo! Feel free to check out my panels (still pending approval) and my artist alley table!
The weekend before this past was the Edmonton Comic and Entertainment Expo here in, well, Edmonton! This is my third year at the event, and definitely my most successful.
But before all of that, previous to the event I was quoted on The Pulp Press with tips for enjoying the weekend, as well as what I was most excited about for. Of course that involved Sailor Moon. Click on the Pulp Press link for the article, and what my friends and I had to say.
The weekend began for me on Thursday when I (very last minute) went to Home Depot to purchase my new Artist Alley display. This meant PVC pipe, fittings, and clamps as far as I could see. Thankfully I have a wonderful brother to cut the pipe for me, and help me deburr the pipe ends!
Friday morning I got up bright and early to set up my booth. Once I realized I miscalculated some minor things in my display I figured it out, set it up, and got to work on some commissions for the weekend until the event opened at 3pm.
Honestly, sales kind of sucked on Friday, so I done a bit of walking around. This lead to finding a personal grail of mine… a Sailor Moon backpack I used in the 90’s. The bag is only worth like $5, but I paid $20, because I’ll never see it in front of me again without paying for shipping, so I jumped for it. That bag has been on my list since I got rid of it.
Saturday was the big event day. Sales went well, commissioners liked their art, I experimented with new mediums, and dished out a lot of prints! My boyfriend joined me at the table for the first time at a big show. He VERY quickly learned that weekends like this can be EXHAUSTING even if they don’t appear to be much work. The day was LOADED with friends visiting, including my BFF, who surprised me with her husband at their first big con. It was like Christmas seeing her at an event like this… so of course I dragged her to a Doctor Who booth I knew she’d drool over (I’m a wonderful influence). Later we went for dinner and I accidentally left another friend at the event XD. We had a good laugh at it after I picked her up and we went for supper though. Oh man. Did I ever feel stupid. (Though to be fair it was just a miscommunication between both of us).
On Sunday sales went decently, but the main event for me was my Sailor Moon panel!
Unfortunately this one goes without video. My friend canceled last minute because she was sick, so I didn’t have a camera to film with lol… and I’m still waiting for the official photos to be posted to the event page, because I forgot to take my own >.> *prepared*
The panel went great! It was definitely one of my larger ones to date, and everyone had lots of great questions. As per usual most of the panel was merchandise related. I DID want to cover some Crystal episode stuff, but I was worried about spoilery issues.
Sadly, this time around I didn’t get a whole lot of autographs. Just Chip Zdarsky, of Sex Criminals ( a comic). He misspelled my name and we had a good laugh about it. I missed out on Rino Romano (1st NA Tuxedo Mask) because I didn’t realize he was there! I also missed out on Bruce Timm because the picture I was working on for him to autograph wasn’t finished. He also had to leave the event early, and therefore didn’t show on Sunday =(.
Over all though, the year was a success! Everyone had fun, money was made, friends were visited. Check out my cosplay photos below! I’ll make a new post with pictures if ECEE ever posts their official shots.
That’s right! I’ll be at the Edmonton Expo in September hosting a Sailor Moon Panel! Check out their website at EdmontonExpo.com.
ECEE will be the largest convention I’ve ever hosted a panel for, so I’m SUPER excited! Join me as I talk about Sailor Moon’s 20th Anniversary, Sailor Moon Crystal, and the future of Sailor Moon. I’ll share my favourite shops, answer questions, and display some of my favourite merchandise from the 20th Anniversary revival.
Get your Sailor Moon fix between episodes!
I’ll also spend my third year in the Artist Alley! Find me at table B12 with LOTS of Sailor Moon prints, buttons, and more! You can preview my art at PaulineFrench or Mercury-Bubbles on deviantArt.com. Feel free to comment with print requests.
Here’s a preview of what I normally have.
